Our labs have updated their assay for the high-sensitivity CRP (hsCRP) test. The new assay has an upper detection limit of 20 mg/L, which means it cannot provide an exact value for any level above this. Results higher than this threshold will now be reported as >20 mg/L.
To continue providing exact numerical values, the lab will automatically run a standard CRP test whenever the hsCRP result is >20 mg/L. Therefore, customers with hsCRP results above this level will receive two CRP results one from the hsCRP test and one from the standard CRP test.
Although both tests measure CRP, they serve different purposes. The hsCRP test is specifically designed to detect lower levels of CRP associated with chronic, low-grade inflammation, which is linked to long-term health conditions such as heart disease. The standard CRP test detects higher CRP levels typically caused by acute inflammation from infections or injuries. Because of these differences, there may be slight variations between the two values.
