It is not necessary to fast before you take your cholesterol test - in fact it helps our doctors build a better picture of your cholesterol levels during a normal day if you have eaten beforehand. Eating normally should make very little difference to your cholesterol test, but sometimes, if you have eaten a lot of fatty foods your triglycerides can be elevated. If this is the case, we will recommend that you repeat your triglyceride test with a fasting sample.
