Do I need to fast for an HbA1c diabetes test?

You do not need to fast for an HbA1c diabetes test.

This test measures the average level of sugar attached to the haemoglobin in your blood over the last 10 - 12 weeks. This means that it is not affected by anything you have just eaten. 

Other tests for diabetes, such as blood glucose and insulin do require a fasting sample. If you order one of these tests we will make sure that you receive instructions about fasting before you collect your sample.
